The Akathist Hymn to the Mother of God, one of the oldest and most important Byzantine kondakia, is analysed from the perspective of Christological Mariology, with a focus on its structure, the disputes concerning its anonymous authorship, and the dogmatic truths regarding the Incarnation of the Word, the hypostatic union of the two natures and the role of the Virgin as Theotokos, conveyed in poetic form to the ecclesial community.
