Orthodoxy in the Face of Contemporary Challenges
Professor, PhD Constantin Cotziópulos Taking as its starting point the death of Pope Francis and the current debates on the role of religion in the public sphere, this article analyses the contribution of the Orthodox Church and its theology to the cultural, social and diplomatic life of 21st-century Europe. It examines the themes of religious diplomacy, Europe’s Christian roots as reflected in the Treaty of Lisbon, and Orthodoxy’s ability to respond to the challenges of secularism, fundamentalism and transhumanism.
